Community Service Project
1 to 10

We, at Aditya Birla World Academy, provide opportunities to our students to serve the larger community and the less fortunate ones. We ensure that each student is involved in “challenging, purposeful and enjoyable Community Service Projects with significant outcomes”. Through them, we create a personal connection for our students and help them build relationships at the local and national level with those in need.

We also ensure that parents and the staff are involved in the Projects. Each Grade is assigned one project to complete during the course of the academic year. The projects are varied so that a student, by the end of Grade 10 would have completed 10 different projects and been exposed to a variety of service related activities.

We further decided to involve our students in being a part of the Go Green Campaign. The purpose was to target the children at a tender age to appreciate the environment and play a role in sustaining it.

We introduced the Batti Bandh Campaign for Grade 1 students. The lights, fans and the ACs were switched off for two hours on the days planned. The students had to carry this message home and practice it there too.
A handful of HKG students decided to save water by going in for a bucket bath rather than a shower.

HKG and LKG students even went around the school premises singing jingles on the ban of plastics. They insisted that only cloth bags have to be used.

We have collaborated with the RUR (TERI) organisation for the past five years. This year we managed to procure a recycled bin through the number of tetra paks we had collected. This, in turn has increased the collection of tetra paks per month. Our Cafeteria team too play a major role in the collection of tetra paks and the plastic bottles. A few of our students are also spreading awareness in their neighbourhood and societies regarding the same.

Grade 1 students also collect plastic bottles which are then disposed in a bottle recycling machine which is installed at Mumbai Central station. These projects will continue every year.

The other service projects are: - Sharing and caring or Daan Utsav, visits to an orphanage, old age home, WSD (welfare of stray dogs), Jai Vakeel Foundation (which caters to greater learning and growth for individuals with intellectual disability), ADAPT (support to people with disabilities), Save The Children India etc. Grade 2 students also collect toys for the NGO Toybank (to those children who are deprived of the privilege of playing with toys).

The main highlight is the Village Partnership programme where we are tied up with Swades, a non-profit organization which is committed to improving the standard of living of the poor in rural areas. Through this programme, we play an active role in uplifting the lives of the villagers in the district of Raigad in the fields of education, sanitation and healthy living. he students of Grades 9 and 10 visited 2-3 villages in Mahad which is in the district of Raigad on different dates. They had to stay for a weekend and carry out the following activities:- Teaching English and Mathematics, Sessions on Menstrual and dental Hygiene, Open Defaction Free (ODF) village promotion, Floor Painting and Craft and Art for Primary School, how to wash their hands before and after meals, dental hygiene, menstruation hygiene and precautions to be taken for the prevention of mosquitoes.
